You will find uploaded here the scheme report, summarising the consultation response, considering objections submitted and confirming the Council's intention to proceed with introducing the width restriction.

The report details some localised objections to the yellow lines needed to accompany the measure, and acknowledges that broader anxieties remain about general traffic levels on the street. It concludes, however, that proceeding with the width-restriction will help reduce the number of goods vehicles using Warwick Road as a cut through between the North Circular Road and Bounds Green Road, resulting in both safety and environmental benefits for residents.

The presence of large lorries on Warwick Road has a disproportionate impact on the sense of traffic domination in the street. Removing 200+ lorries from the traffic mix will therefore go some way towards making walking and cycling along Warwick Road less intimidating than at present; a key benefit even if the measure does not reduce the number of domestic vehicles using the street.

Signed restrictions on vehicles over 7.5 tonnes prohibit HGV drivers from using Warwick Road as a through route. However queues on the North Circular Road can tempt HGV drivers to contravene these restrictions, and routine enforcement activity is not feasible for this type of offence.

Enfield Council is seeking views on its proposals for a width restriction on Warwick Road just north of Tewkesbury Terrace. This will help limit the speed of all traffic and prevent access to any vehicles larger than grocery delivery vans.

Why We Are Consulting

Enfield Council is confident that this proposal will be well supported by residents who would prefer larger vehicles to remain on the North Circular Road, rather than diverting via Warwick Road, which is not suitable for this type of through traffic.

The Council is consulting for the 3 reasons given below:

(1) To establish the level of support for the proposal from those living on Warwick Road.

(2) To seek comments from those living on other streets in the area.

(3) To gather comments and objections in line with its statutory obligations in consulting on a new width restriction and associated yellow lines.

Comments and Questions: The Council is interested in your comments, which can be added at the end of the survey. For help with the survey, for clarification on what is being proposed, or to seek an answer to a direct question, please call the Traffic Team on 020 8379 3523 before completing your response.

What Happens Next

The Council will consider the comments submitted and decide whether to take forward the scheme.

Should the scheme go forward, the Council will aim to introduce the new width restriction before the end of the year.
